Return to school - September 2020

August 2020

Dear Parents/Carers,

REF: Re-opening of Woodstock Primary Academy -1st September 2020

I hope you and your families have managed to stay safe and well during this difficult time. I have really enjoyed engaging with you through the Family Learning Projects and the Facebook page and I am so pleased to be able to give you more information about the opening of school to all pupils from the 1st September.

Thank you for your patience while we finalised our detailed plans for this re-opening. As a trust and as a school we have worked hard to ensure that we have reduced the risk to adults and children as much as possible during this time and we are looking forward to welcoming you back.

This letter will provide you with the necessary information for the start of the academic year and, I hope, answer any questions you may have about your child coming back to school.

However, I understand that this return to school may raise lots of queries and I am pleased to say that the school office will be available to take your calls from Monday 24th August. Please note, the office is closed to visitors and parents in person. You can contact the school office by phoning or emailing to arrange an appointment.

Of course, when we come back, we may need to do things in a different way, we might have to deal with some small changes to our daily routines and some things might look different. However, I am positive that we can deal with any changes we face and continue to smile, laugh, have a fantastic time and continue to move forward through the year finding out about new and exciting things whilst we continue to be respectful and ready to learn at all times.

Whilst we are really looking forward to getting back to school, please note that all dates and information is provisional and therefore subject to change in accordance with changing guidance. We will contact you if anything changes.

I look forward to seeing you all again soon.

Dan Edwards

Principal

Clothing and equipment

As we start the new term, all pupils will be required to wear our full school uniform. We expect the children at Woodstock to wear:

  • A white shirt or white polo shirt
  • Black trousers or black skirt
  • A jade green jumper or sweatshirt (preferably with the school logo)
  • Girls are also permitted to wear a green checked dress with a jade green jumper or cardigan
  • Plain black shoes or black trainers (trainers must be plain black with no white or coloured logos or soles)

All items of our uniform can be purchased here https://uniform-direct.com/

The children will be changing for PE and should bring a PE kit to school on Monday and to be taken home on a Friday.  We will be working and playing outside as much as possible, therefore please follow our PE kit policy.

All children must have a full, labelled water bottle with them every day that can be refilled throughout the day. Please send your child with a packet of tissues for personal use. Children will only need to bring their book bags and a packed lunch if required. Children will not be allowed to bring in any learning materials (pencil cases etc) or equipment from home. This does include toys

Children will be provided with their own equipment, which will remain in school. Each child will have their own table and chair. Coats and lunchboxes will stay with the children in their cloak rooms.

Drop-off and collection arrangements and class organisation

Following government guidance and to maintain social distancing; avoiding any mixing of groups we are staggering the start and end times of the school day. It is essential that we keep the different year groups of children separate from each other. This includes drop off and pick up.

Access to the school will be through specific gates identified in the table below. Please ensure that social distancing is observed while waiting to drop-off and collect your child.

On your arrival SLT and other members of the staff team will be on the playground to advise you where to go and how to move around the playground safely. Please note we will be operating a one-way system and all parents and carers will need to leave the school premises via the gate on Marwood Road.

Where possible, we have tried to ensure that the staggered times are manageable for parents with siblings across different year groups. However, as the opening weeks progress, please speak to a member of the SLT team on duty to discuss any difficulties you are incurring with the system.

As you can appreciate, the safety of our school community is paramount in our preparations to reopening. To reduce the number of adults on the playground we are asking that children are dropped off and collected by one adult only.

Families with siblings, please drop off and pick up all children at the arrival and collection time of your youngest child. For example:

Child A (Y4) 8:35am - 8:50am + Child B (Y2) 9:05am - 9:20am = both children can be dropped off at 9:05am.

The gates to the school are in numerical order as you approach the school from Marwood Road; gate 3 being the furthest gate past the main entrance.

First Aid

Each building has a first aid kit for minor injuries, cuts and grazes. Where possible and only if appropriate, we will ask children to carry out their own first aid (under supervision) e.g. washing and cleaning graze, applying a plaster.

For more serious injuries we will follow our normal first aid procedures and we always have first aiders on-site. Staff will wear appropriate PPE when administering first aid or supporting any child with intimate care of any sort.

Breakfast Club and extracurricular activities

At present we will not be running our usual calendar of after school clubs until October half term. Furthermore, our daily breakfast club will not be in place until later this term. Please note, we are working quickly to ensure we can offer these provisions in the safest way possible. Information regarding both additional school offers, will be shared in due course.
