Year 6 - Blood Heart

Posted on: 12/12/2021

Year 6 have had a very exciting half term; they have been learning all about the heart and focusing on the novel 'Pig Heart Boy' written by Malorie Blackman.

During our curriculum learning, the children have learnt about: the components and functions of the heart; the components of blood; how blood groups were first created and by whom; the effects of exercise on their bodies and much more. They have also created some fantastic abstract ‘blood red’ artwork and made their very own working stethoscopes!

We have also been very lucky to have Alan (a volunteer) come in to teach the children life-saving CPR. They all had a fantastic afternoon and could not stop talking about it!

During our English learning the children have learnt all about xenotransplantation and written a fantastic discursive argument on whether Cam (a character in the book) should accept a transplant of a pig’s heart. They have also written some brilliant newspaper reports about the world’s first xenotransplantation.

We have had a wonderful first term together and are very excited to learn about The Frozen Kingdom next half term

From all of the Year 6 team we wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
