School Closure letter 30.6.2020

Dear Parent / Carer,

The Health Secretary, Matt Hancock spoke to parliament to raise concerns about the levels of Covid-19 infection across Leicester. He stated that:

The 7-day infection rate in Leicester is 135 cases per 100,000 people, which is 3 times higher than the next highest city.

Leicester accounts for around 10% of all positive cases in the country over the past week.

Admissions to hospital are between 6 and 10 per day in Leicester rather than around 1 a day at other NHS trusts.

In order to address the increased rates of infection, the Government has decided on the following actions:

1. A new walk in testing centre will be opened in Leicester City. Anyone in Leicester with symptoms must come forward for a test.

2. Extra funding will be given to Leicester City to ensure communication is improved.

3. The Government will provide support people self-isolating.

4. Schools will also need to close from Thursday, staying open for vulnerable children and children of critical workers as they did throughout.

I am therefore writing to you today to inform you that Woodstock Primary Academy will close on Tuesday 30th June at 4.00pm and will remain closed to pupils until 1st September 2020.

However, we will remain open for those children that currently access our key worker provision. Please only send you child into this provision if you:

1. Already have a confirmed place at the provision

2. Are showing no signs or symptoms of Covid-19

As always during this period of uncertainty, if you have any safeguarding concerns whilst the school is closed, for your child or for any other pupil from the school, please contact safeguarding@woodstock.leicester.sch.uk

As ever, thank you for your continued support during this time.

Yours faithfully,

Dan Edwards

Principal
